THE FINISHING SCHOOL – FOR ALL THE PAGES BEYOND PAGE ONE
an 8-week workshop for the writer on a mission

My writing workshop is called The Finishing School. No, no. Not like this place!

It’s a writing workshop. It is not for someone who wants to learn how to write. There are other classes that I strongly recommend for that.

The Finishing School is for the writer who has already set out or decided on a project, whether it be a novel, a memoir, a collection of poems or short stories, even screenplays and plays. The workshop offers a great combination of group sharing, one-on-one coaching, impeccable editing, and peer support. I have set out to create the ideal environment for a writer to stay on course and move closer and closer to the final page of the project. Every piece of writing begins with an initial impulse. By staying loyal to this impulse, the writer will be able to rediscover the purpose with which his or her first word was written, which in turn will once again allow the writer to use his unique voice and her great talent to continue, creating a momentum that will see the project to the end.

For those of you who are working on something, but don’t feel quite ready to finish, don’t let the title of the workshop scare you away. Once again, the workshop will help you focus and stay on course, even if you can’t see the end of the tunnel yet.

Well, I am excited to be working with you and I know it will be a rewarding and productive experience for all of us.

DETAILS OF THE WORKSHOP:

  • TUESDAYS
  • NEXT SESSION: 01/05/10 – 02/23/10

WRITING THE REAL
a 6-week workshop offered through Conger Seminars

In this ongoing workshop, we seek to develop our writing voices and deepen our relationship with language through weekly reading and writing assignments.  Each week, we will discuss technique in the pieces we have read and work with the pieces we have written in the group. Our goal is not merely to produce work, but to gain a greater understanding of the artistic process by gathering the courage to take chances, experiment, and delve deeply into our hearts and minds so we may write from the truest possible place.  The only thing we are to be certain of is that everything must be uncertain—allowing us not merely to be brave, but to produce great art. Writers need to allow approximately 3 hours weekly outside of class to complete assignments. All are welcome!

DETAILS OF THE WORKSHOP:

  • MONDAYS
  • NEXT SESSION: 02/01/10 – 03/08/10
  • 6 Week Session
  • $300
